Apple included a number of new features in the latest Mac operating system called macOS 11 Big Sur. The current Macintosh operating system is inspired by iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. Some iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 functional features were added in macOS Big Sur. In iOS and iPadOS 14, you have a new update in Control Center, Notification Center, and much more. So, the same features and update was included in macOS 11 Big Sur.

There are multiple new improvements and the major update comes in the Safari web browser. However, you can customize the Safari start page or you can set a new Safari wallpaper in macOS Big Sur, Control Center, Notification Center, and the main point that we are discussing in this article is a new battery setting. In macOS 11 Big Sur you have the option to customize new battery settings to enhance battery life.

Without new battery settings, you have many other new settings that need to customize it. But, in this article, I will guide you on how to use/customize the new battery settings in macOS 11 Big Sur to improve battery life.

How to Use New Battery Settings in macOS Big Sur?

In the latest Mac operating system, Apple introduced a new battery usage tools and a comeback of battery life quotation. But, in macOS Big Sur the Network Utility tool deprecates.

In macOS 11 you can find a new battery Usage History feature in System Preferences that provides users the spoon on their Mac’s battery life over the past 24 hours or 10 days. The pane breaks that down in addition to Battery Level and Screen On Usage, however doesn’t provide granular detail for person apps.

The previous option in the Energy Saver pane is replaced with the new options in the updated Battery section, along with a new Battery and Power Adapter sections was updated in macOS Big Sur. #1: Check Battery Time Remaining Estimation

Now you can check your Mac battery time remaining estimation in macOS 11 Big Sur. Simply, tap on the battery icon on the top menu bar. Here you will see a menu pop-out displaying the battery time remaining estimation along with different useful data. In this menu, you can find the apps that eat the significant battery on your Mac.

Apple gives you the option to take control of those applications that are using significant energy on your Mac. If you want to improve your battery life then manage the application.

#2: Check Battery Usage History

In macOS 11 Big Sur, you can check the battery usage history in order to know how the battery is performing. With this feature, you can find the battery drain issues in your Mac whenever you want. So, this option may be helpful in giving a greater perception.
- Tap on the battery icon from the top menu bar and click the Battery Preferences.
- From the sidebar, tap on Usage History.
- Here, you have options to check the battery usage history. Whether you want to check out the energy usage of the past 24 hours or last 10 days. Simply tap on the option to show the usage history.

So far, macOS Big Sur is in beta version and it doesn’t show the application details that used the battery. So, we hope Apple should include the detail in the upcoming macOS 11 version.

#3: Change Battery Preferences to Improve Battery Life

In this option, you can customize the battery preferences to enhance battery life on your Mac. Here how to do it.
- Tap on Battery Icon from the top menu bar and click the Battery Preferences.
- Tap on the Battery option from the sidebar.
- Here, you have 4 options to enhance the battery life on your Mac.
  - Show Battery Status in Menu Bar: If you want to see the battery status of your Mac in the menu bar. Then, check the Show Battery Status in Menu Bar.
  - Turn Display off After: This option is necessary to keep shorter auto-lock time. You can set the time to turn off display after 1-5 minutes, This option can improve the battery life on your Mac.
  - Slightly Dim the Display While on Battery Power: If you are curious to improve the battery life of your Mac by cutting down all the useless apps. Then, check the box for it and it will turn off all the unnecessary things on your Mac.
  - Enable Power Nap While on Battery Power: This option is the best one to protect the battery life on your Mac system. Hands down, by checking this option you can get a new email, calendar, and other iCloud pictures while your Mac is in sleep mode.

#4: Change Power Adapter Preferences

In macOS Big Sur, Apple included such handy features that you can boost the battery life of your Mac notebook. Here, you can take control of the power adapter preferences.
- Tap the battery icon from the top menu bar and click the Battery Preferences.
- Tap the Power Adapter from the sidebar and change its options.
- Here you have 5 options to enhance the battery life of your Mac
  - Show Battery Status in Menu Bar: This option is recommended for your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. This will help you to check the battery status.
  - Turn Display off After: This option allows you to set the auto-lock of your Mac. Simply move the slider left or right to adjust the auto-lock-time.
  - Prevent Computer from Sleeping Automatically when the Display is off: If you don’t want your Mac to sleep while the display is off then check the box for it.
  - Wake for Network Access: I recommend to check this box to make your Mac desktop wake for network access.
  - Enable Power Nap While Plugging into a Power Adapter: Simply check this box to make your computer take a Power Nap when plugging into a power adapter. Remember, your Mac can backup using Time Machine and periodically check for things such as email, calendar, and iCloud updates.

#5: Schedule Your macOS Big Sur to Start-Up

In macOS 11 Big Sur battery settings, you will have an option to schedule your Mac computer to start up or wake at a preferred time. In case, you want your Mac to be ready at a specific time and automatically go to sleep mode. Then, this feature can help you.
- Tap the battery icon from the top menu bar and click the Battery Preferences.
- Tap the Schedule option from the sidebar.
- Now customize the start-up or wake time table.

Show Battery Percentage in Menu Bar

In macOS 11 Big Sur, Apple hides the battery percentage and no longer you see in the menu of the battery icon. However, the battery percentage is one of the helpful features for all devices. This will help the device owner to plug the charger when the battery charge is low.

You don’t need to worry, here how you can get it back. Simply, go to System Preferences and click on Dock & Menu Bar. Here, tap on Battery from the sidebar and tick the box for show Percentage. Now, you will have the percentage in the menu bar of the battery icon.

The macOS Catalina is the previous Apple operating system that released on June 22, 2019, at WWDC. This operating system has several new features like iTunes Replacement, iPad apps on Mac, Send an Email, Screen time comes to the Mac, Apple watches Approval, Safari Improvement, and etc.

The macOS Catalina fifth beta version is released and now available for all users to upgrade to macOS Catalina 10.15.5. Apple fixed all the macOS Catalina issues that users faced and now you can go with it easily.

And macOS Catalina is the previous operating system that released on June 22, 2019. I checked both and observe all the features and improvements. Finally, I got macOS Big Sur is better than macOS Catalina. But, the macOS Big Sur stable version is not released yet and the beta version has several errors.

You can wait for the final release of macOS Big Sur and install it on your system. But, till that time, I recommend you to use macOS Catalina. However, macOS Catalina was the powerful Macintosh operating system and it has several new features. When Apple introduced macOS Catalina at WWDC19. Then, All users are curious to check it out like today they are doing with macOS Big Sur.

Anyhow, today’s update and today’s latest operating system macOS Big Sur is the only operating system that has amazing features and in high-demand from legions of users.

How to Downgrade from macOS Big Sur to macOS Catalina?

Below are the steps that can help you to downgrade to macOS Catalina from macOS Big Sur. However, there is a multi-step process that erases your Mac, installs the latest version of macOS Catalina and then you need to restore from Time machine backup. Though these steps will take a little time but you can do it easily.

Backup your Mac

While you have macOS Catalina on your system and you want to upgrade to macOS Big Sur. Then, did you make a backup of your Mac using a time machine? If yes, then you can restore all the files and data from it after you downgrade to macOS Catalina. In case, you didn’t make a time machine backup of your Mac. Then, you will have a new macOS Catalina Mac.

However, you are using macOS Big Sur and you might download files from the internet or you made documents files. Then, make a copy of all your files to an external hard drive. Although, you can save to cloud service like Google Drive. Once you roll back to macOS Catalina then you can transfer them back. Even you can transfer to your iPhone.

Erase macOS 11 Big Sur from Mac Drive
1. To start the process, you need to restart your Mac. Therefore, go to the Apple logo and tap on Restart.
2. While your Mac is restarting, immediately press and hold Command+R. Remember, keep holding until you see the Utilities menu.
3. Now, tap on Disk Utility and click on Continue.
4. After that, select your Mac drive like Macintosh HD from the left side of the page.
5. Tap on the Erase button from the top menu.
6. Here you will see a pop-up erase menu. So, type a name for the drive and select APFS for format from the dropdown list.
7. Then, click Erase.
8. Wait for a while, once the drive is erased then click the Done button and go to Disk Utility and click Quit.
Note: Don’t close the macOS utilities page because all the processes and steps will be done with this page.

Reinstall macOS Catalina
1. On the macOS Utilities, tap on Reinstall macOS and click Continue.
2. Afterward, agree to the terms and conditions.
3. Now, follow the on-screen instructions to download macOS Catalina.
4. While the download is done then follow the installation steps of macOS Catalina.
How to Reinstall macOS Catalina using Bootable USB Drive?

The above method will download macOS Catalina from the internet. If you have a fast internet connection then the macOS Catalina setup will be downloaded soon. Anyhow, it will take a little time. In case, your internet connection is not good and you want to reinstall macOS Catalina using a bootable USB drive. Then, follow this method. Make sure, you created macOS Catalina bootable USB.
1. Plug the macOS Catalina bootable USB drive to your Mac.
2. Go to Apple Logo and tap on Restart.
3. While restarting, hold down the option key.
4. Now, you will get the option to choose a startup disk. Here, select the macOS Catalina bootable USB drive.
5. once you select the bootable USB, then, macOS Catalina will start installing on your Mac. Therefore, click the Continue on the macOS Catalina installation page.
6. Now, agree to the license terms and conditions.
7. After that, follow the installation steps to complete the macOS Catalina installation.
Restore Time Machine Backup

This step will work when you have a time machine backup for macOS Catalina. Otherwise, you can’t go with this process. In case, you made a backup of your macOS Catalina before installing macOS Big Sur. then, you can restore all the files once your downgrade to macOS Catalina from macOS Big Sur.
1. Plug the Time Machine hard drive to your Mac.
2. Now go to Apple Logo and tap on Restart.
3. While restarting, press and hold the Command+R keys.
4. Afterward, tap on Restore from Time Machine Backup in the macOS Utilities and click Continue.
5. Check all the restoring information from a backup. After that, select the Backup source and proceed.
6. Hand down to select the latest and recent macOS Catalina backup on the drive and click Continue.
7. Now, wait to complete the restore process.

Though the public beta is coming in this month. But, no specific date is announced by Apple.

It means, you download and install macOS 11 Big Sur on your Mac and you start working on the current Mac operating system. From App Store, you have downloaded several applications like Games, Adobe Programs, MS Office, etc. But, now you don’t need some of the application and you want to Delete/Uninstall the application in macOS Big Sur. However, deleting an application in macOS Big Sur is better for the storage and best performance for your operating system.

It doesn’t matter, whether you installed macOS Big Sur on virtual machines or on your Mac computer. Although, the method will work for both virtual machines and Mac desktop. In this article, I will show you the best method to uninstall application in macOS 11 Big Sur.

How to Delete/Uninstall Application in macOS Big Sur?

If you have used macOS Catalina then you know pretty much how to delete application in Mac. Deleting applications in Mac is not difficult because you have third-party software that allows you to delete applications permanently. If you don’t need or you don’t want to use some of the applications. Then, I recommend you to delete the useless applications.

Uninstall Applications Manually

The best method to delete the application is by using manual settings. There are other methods that you can delete the application permanently. But, this method is easy and it will delete the apps permanently. However, you can use third-party apps like AppDelete and CleanMyMac. This software will help you to uninstall the apps forever.

Step 1: Open the Finder app and tap on Applications from the left-hand side.

Step 2: Now, select the app that you are going to delete it, make sure, the app is closed. Or you can search for the app you want to delete. So, tap on the search bar icon from the top-right hand-side and search for the app.

Step 3: However, you can uninstall the app once you searched. But, this method will not delete all the files that are included with the application. You need to uninstall all the files that are included with the app. To do that, tap on the + icon from the right-hand-side and tap on Name > other.

Step 5: Once you click on other options, Then, search for System Files and add the system file. After that, click Ok.

Step 6: Once you click ok, then, tap on Name option that you did later and select System Files.

Step 7: Now, you have to select Are Included option in order to show all the files that are included with the application.

Step 8: These are the files that are included with the application I am going to uninstall. If you delete all the files then the application will be uninstalled with all its files.

Step 9: Select all the files and move them to trash. In case, all the files don’t move to the trash then do it one by one. Here, it will ask you to enter your password.
